Peter Hickman has taken to social media to disclose the extent of his injuries suffered in a 140 mph get-off during practice for the 2025 Isle of Man TT.
Hickman crashed at the Kerrowmoar lefthander after his 8Ten Racing BMW M 1000 RR suffered a broken exhaust mount bracket, which in turn caused the exhaust pipe to rub on Hickman’s rear tire and subsequently deflate it.
“Condition-wise, I’m not too bad,” Hickman said. “I’ve got quite a lot of broken bones. I’ve broken my left collarbone, my left scapula, and my shoulder blade. I broke three ribs and four vertebrae in my back.
“So, it’s not ideal, but I just want to say a massive thanks to the marshals and medics that looked after me at the time. They did a fantastic job. I don’t remember much about it because I was knocked out. I don’t remember the lap leading up to it, and in fact, the first time I properly woke up, I woke up in the hospital. It’s a bit of a new experience for me. In my 25-year career, I’ve not been knocked out before!
“But I’ve been going to the Isle of Man TT now for 10 years. This is the first major problem that I’ve had, touch wood. It’s just one of those things.”
Hickman did not disclose when he would return to competition in the British Superbike Championship. CN
