We’re live from Lakewood, Colorado for round three of the 2024 Pro Motocross Championship. Things are heating up after Jett Lawrence’s win streak ended last week which simultaneously dropped him to sixth in the standings and bumped Chase Sexton to the points lead. Let’s get into today’s action.
HIGHLIGHTS
450MX Moto 1
Hunter Lawrence finally won his first career 450MX moto in moto one. The 450 rookie started just outside the top three but slowly worked his way through the field and closed in on the top spot with less than 10 minutes remaining. He passed Justin Cooper for the lead and held the lead through to the finish ahead of brother Jett.

Jett Lawrence rebounded to finish second after a tough weekend in Hangtown. He started outside the top five but followed the tow of his brother Hunter during the opening laps of the race. Jett and Hunter outpaced the top three as they passed Justin Cooper and moved into the one-two positions. Jett started the day with a second place result.

Justin Cooper crossed the line third. The 450MX rookie started things off with the holeshot and led more than half of the race before succumbing to both Lawrences. A third still proved strong to start his day in Colorado.

450MX Moto 2
After just one week off Jett Lawrence finds himself back on the top step of the podium. He started third but slowly worked passed his brother Hunter and early-race leader Justin Cooper. Jett moved into the lead with just four laps left and closed out the day with a race win. 2-1 results earned him the overall and bump him back to third in the series points.

Hunter Lawrence held on for third in the moto. After winning race one, he started third but moved up after Chase Sexton’s crash. The brothers worked together once again and found themselves one and two come the checkered flag. 1-2 gives Hunter second overall but moves him to the series lead with the red plate.

Justin Cooper again led most of race two but lost the top spot late in the moto. He led all but the final four laps and again crossed third, going 3-3 for third on the day. J Coop is now fourth in the championship points.

Points leader Chase Sexton had a tough day, going 6-5 for fifth overall. He started strong in race two but fell early and rallied for a top five. In the process, he loses the red plate and drops to second in points.

250MX Moto 1
Haiden Deegan managed to win the opening moto of the 250MX class. The current points leader led the opening laps of the race with rival Tom Vialle closing in second. With only a few laps left on the race clock Deegan fell which allowed Vialle to momentarily pass for the lead. Deegan quickly remounted and then jumped to Vialle’s inside, forcing the number-16 off the track. This decisive move re-gained the spot for Deegan and pushed Vialle back to to second.

Tom Vialle battled for the win but crossed second.
Levi Kitchen pushed hard from a poor start to take third. By the end of the race, he lost the tow of the leaders and settled for the final podium spot.

250MX Moto 2
Chance Hymas checked off his first-ever moto win in the second 250 moto. The Honda rider got the jump with a crucial holeshot and led every one of the 15 laps. 4-1 moto results give Hymas second in the overall rankings. This also moves Hymas to a tie for second in the series points at 121 with Vialle.

Haiden Deegan held on for second in the second moto. The Yamaha rider crossed just over three seconds behind Hymas but knew the 1-2 scores would be good enough to still earn him the day’s overall. Deegan continues to lead the points, 23 more than second place.

Jo Shimoda rallied for third in the second moto. He moved through the field after a lackluster start and worked his way into the final podium spot, putting two Honda’s on the podium. This marks Shimoda’s best result of the season and puts him fourth on the day with 5-3 results.

Tom Vialle couldn’t make it to the box in race two but 2-4 results still earned him third on the day.

QUALIFYING
Jett Lawrence rebounded from a disastrous round at Hangtown and topped the 450MX time sheets by 1.1 seconds over his brother Hunter. Jett was the only rider in the 2:10 range, while Hunter was the only rider to land in the 2:11’s. Justin Cooper clocked in third with a 2:12.2 just ahead of Jason Anderson and Chase Sexton.

Ty Masterpool is showing the industry why he was picked for the Pro Circuit fill-in ride as he topped the 250 qualifying. He barely beat Haiden Deegan by 0.03 seconds and Chance Hymas by 0.3 back in third. The top three riders all ran in the 2:16’s, six seconds slower than the best 450 times.
Ty Masterpool was the fastest 250 rider.
