Southern California motocross legend, Kenny Zahrt (pictured on left), suffered a “massive stroke” on Thursday morning (November 13), said Zahrt’s former wife and lifelong friend, Tina Varner-Zahrt. The popular rider was discovered unconscious sometime around 9:00 AM at his Canyon Country shop, Haulin’ Zahrt Motosports.

Zahrt, 59, was taken to Henry Mayo Hospital in Newhall, California where he remains in critical condition.

Notorious for his uncanny holeshot ability, Zahrt “The Dart” was a Southern California motocross icon throughout the 1970’s and 80’s, winning hundreds of pro races on a variety of brands, including Ossa, Maico, Montesa, Can-Am and Honda. But it was on his beloved Bultacos that Kenny spent most of his career and will forever be synonymous with. Zahrt was a regular at Indian Dunes, often racing there three or four times a week. He was well respected as a fierce competitor across the nation and won the 1974 AMA 250 National at Red Bud Track n Trail, in Buchanan, Michigan.
