The FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) decider was held at Most in the Czech Republic, October 9-10, with the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team (Ilya Mikhalchik, Markus Reiterberger and Kenny Foray) defeating the YART–Yamaha Official EWC Team (Marvin Fritz, Karel Hanika and Niccolo Canepa) by 0.070 seconds in the closest finish in EWC history.
The race distilled into a battle between BMW and Yamaha over the last hour, with Yamaha’s Marvin Fritz setting the fastest race lap four times in the last half hour. He set the final record, a 1:33.875, on his second-last lap but couldn’t overhaul BMW’s Markus Reiterberger. The win also marked the first time BMW has claimed an EWC race win.
Third went to the Yoshimura SERT Motul team of Gregg Black, Xavier Simeon and Sylvain Guintoli, sealing the 2021 EWC title. SERT fended off the attack of Webike SRC Kawasaki France Trickstar (Jeremy Guarnoni, Erwan Nigon and David Checa), which ensured third overall in the 2021 series behind SERT and second-placed BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team.
Fifth place at Most went to the Wojcik Racing Team (Gino Rea, Sheridan Morais and Dan Linfoot), just ahead of ERC Endurance-Ducati (Etienne Masson, Lorenzo Zanetti and Mathieu Gines). The first Superstock machine home was the No Limits Motor Team (Luca Scassa, Kevin Calia and Alexis Masbou) in seventh.
It was a race to forget for former EWC champions F.C.C. TSR Honda (Mike di Meglio, Josh Hook, Yuki Takahashi), who shot away to an early lead in the hands of Di Meglio but a crash for Takahashi at the two-hour mark ended their race. The crash would see the team drop to fifth in the overall standings.
Tati Team Beringer Racing and Moto Ain also crashed when they were in the top 10, followed by VRD Igol Experiences, who retired following an engine failure on their Yamaha. CN
