Costella, Blose Score at MiniMotoSX

Derek Costella was the big winner of the MiniMotoSX at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The GEICO Powersports-backed event culminated with a “World Final” which combined all the podium finishers from the Expert and Youth classes into one race, and Costella took the win, a check for $3000 and a Pioneer entertainment system.

“That last race went awesome,” the BBR rider said. “The first 110 race, I got passed and it made me really mad so that last 12-inch class, I just put my head down and charged. I ride a lot better and real smooth when I’m mad.”

Anger seemed to do the trick, because Costella stayed smooth and consistent to stay out front and take the top step of the podium in the final race of the night.

Red Barron-backed Michael Blose was the other big winner in Las Vegas, taking the 12-inch Expert win and a podium in the World Final.

“Going into the Worlds race, I was really motivated to win,” Blose said. “I was exhausted so I knew that was going to be a key factor. I just tried to go out there and get a good start and I think about lap three I was pretty much done. I can’t complain going home with two wins and a third. I’ll take it.”

Ryan Abrigo joined Costella and Blose on the podium in the 10-inch class, and in the 12-inch main, it was French mini moto phenom Mike Valade joining the pair on the box.

Austin Politelli dominated the youth classes on his CHP-backed mini by winning both the 10-inch and 12-inch classes while Erika Short successfully defended her title in the women’s class over Tatum Sik and Jackie Ives.

In the inaugural AMA-sanctioned electric vs. gas-powered race, dubbed the Energy Crisis-cross, Drew Gosselaar led an electric-bike sweep of the podium riding a Quantya ahead of Zero-mounted Chris Dvoracek and fellow Zero rider and former World Motocross Champion Sebastian Tortelli. The electric bikes not only swept the podium, but took the top six spots with Jay Maloney on a Kawasaki taking seventh ahead of Jimmy Lewis on a BBR Honda 150F.
