It was a night marked by the number six: the sixth round of the 2026 SuperEnduro season, during which Billy Bolt was pursuing his sixth indoor World Championship in Newcastle, England, on February 28. Additionally, six podium finishes across the three Prestige class races were held by British riders, making it a remarkably successful evening for the home fans in Newcastle.

It wasn’t a night without drama, as Jonny Walker rode with a broken hand—a painful but manageable metacarpal bone, he said—and it didn’t prevent him from delivering Bolt’s worst result of the season, third, in moto two.
Bolt was fastest in practice, but he hasn’t always been this season. An 85-point championship lead meant he could coast to podiums on the night and still clinch the title a round early (the final GP is in Douai, France, next weekend).
In Superpole, Mitch Brightmore and Jonny Walker posted their fastest times of the day to put the pressure on Bolt. Both went inside the 32s, but Bolt matched them, posting his fastest lap, and the fastest lap of anyone all day and night, at 32.009.
Come race night, Brightmore got a strong start in moto one to lead ahead of Bolt and Walker. It took a lap or two, but Bolt made the move on Brightmore, and the pair matched each other for pace to pull clear. A mistake from Bolt in the rocks brought Brightmore close, but a couple of laps later, a mistake from Brightmore gave Walker a chance of second.
A lap later, Bolt then tucked the front in a flat turn, and Walker was through. These two were locked in for the final laps, setting a pattern for the three motos on the night, but Walker took it, with Brightmore third, ahead of his brother Ashton, who finished in a confidence-boosting fourth placed, and Eddie Karlsson fifth.
Bolt could’ve clinched the title in race two, but instead it was a race with a lot of drama and a new World Champion upset with his worst result of the whole season. The reverse grid saw Alfredo Gomez take the holeshot, but Harry Edmondson was soon in the lead ahead of Walker, making fast progress.
Bolt was playing it cool, picking off riders as Walker took the lead. Once he had a clear track and only Walker to chase, Bolt closed in on the Triumph but also had a determined Mitch Brightmore hounding him behind.
Bolt had the luxury not to worry but wanted the win, and it turned into the race of the night, as Walker held the champion-elect off while Mitch snapped at his heels.
Dominik Olszowy was blind to the blue flags and held both lead riders up, but a penultimate-lap crash in the rocks let Walker off the hook for a rare and popular win. It was scrappy from Bolt (by his standards), and it allowed the terrier-like Mitch Brightmore through for the second. The limelight was Bolt’s, but he left the track in third place.
Bolt checked out in moto three, and it was a textbook performance. Carrying the number one plate on the front of his Husky, he left the others to battle for the overall podium and took the win to finally soak up the glory of the title.

The drama was behind again, though, as Walker and Mitch Brightmore were on a mission for best of the rest. A mistake gave Walker breathing room, but Mitch Brightmore wasn’t done, and when Walker made his own error in the matrix, Mitch Brightmore grabbed it. It wasn’t over, and the fight went right to the flag, with Mitch Brightmore finally second and Walker third, but their positions in final overall results were reversed thanks to Walker’s 2-1-3 scorecard compared with Mitch Brightmore’s 3-2-2.
Ashton Brightmore claimed fourth overall ahead of Karlsson.
There’s only one round left in the championship in France, and Bolt is presumably going to skip it since he and his wife are expecting their first child.CN
