Scott Redding (PBM Ducati) had a near-perfect weekend at Assen in the British Superbike Championship at the weekend, taking two wins from three starts as Kyle Ryde extended his points lead.
Redding led from the start in race one, briefly losing the spot to Kyle Ryde (Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha) before reclaiming it and edging clear. Christian Iddon (AJN Steelstock Kawasaki) gave chase but ran wide on lap six, promoting Leon Haslam (Moto Rapido Ducati) to second. Behind him, Max Cook (Cheshire Mouldings Ducati), Danny Kent (McAMS Racing Yamaha) and Bradley Ray (Raceways Yamaha) scrapped for podium places until Cook crashed and Ray also went down while pushing forward.
The race was red-flagged with a restart planned, but worsening weather stopped the proceedings entirely. Haslam claimed second, Kent third, while Charlie Nesbitt (MasterMac Honda) and Iddon rounded out the top five. Ryde finished sixth and held a 35-point advantage going into races two and three despite Ray’s crash.
Iddon delivered a standout ride in race two at Assen, mastering the wet on the AJN Steelstock Kawasaki. He launched straight into the lead, while Skinner charged from 18th to reach second by lap 10.
Bradley Ray, rebuilding from his race-one crash, shadowed the pair but couldn’t find a way through. Iddon kept his cool to secure the win, with Skinner second and Ray third. The result gave Ray 10 valuable points back on title rival Kyle Ryde, who salvaged eighth after a late charge.
The weekend finale delivered even more drama, as Redding sealed his second win of the meeting in a last-lap thriller. The race was red-flagged early due to showers but restarted in dry conditions.
Ryde initially led with Haslam, Storm Stacey (Starline Kawasaki), and Tommy Bridewell (Honda Racing UK) in pursuit. Early contender Iddon crashed out unhurt. Bridewell and Ray fought inside the top five, but the closing laps belonged to Redding, Haslam and Ryde. Redding struck on the final lap to take victory, with Haslam second and Ryde third.
With two rounds to go, the series points have Ryde looking good for a second straight BSB crown on 391 points from Ray on 360 and Haslam on 280.CN
