Race one kicked off with MXGP rookie Maxime Renaux grabbing the holeshot and taking the early lead ahead of his Yamaha teammates, Glenn Coldenhoff and Jeremy Seewer. These three controlled the race from the front while action unfolded on the rough track behind them. Seewer eventually passed Coldenhoff for second, but Renaux remained up front en route to another race win. Points leader Tim Gajser finished just off the podium in fourth.
Seewer then took the holeshot in race two, while Renaux tangled in turn two and hit the deck. The race-one winner would not finish the second moto. Meanwhile, Seewer continued to lead. The Swiss rider held off charges from Gajser and Romain Febvre and retained the lead through to the checkers. Gajser finished closely behind in second with Febvre taking the final podium spot. Seewer’s 2-1 finishes earned him another overall ahead of Gajser’s 4-2 and Coldenhoff in third with 3-5.
MX2
The MX2 championship is coming down to the wire with only 23 points separating Jago Geerts and Tom Vialle. While Kawasaki’s Kevin Horgmo grabbed the holeshot in the opening MX2 race, it was Vialle who took over the lead before the end of lap one. Geerts followed suit and moved to second after a few laps but later fell and handed the position back to Horgmo. This allowed Vialle to check out up front while Geerts and Horgmo duked it out for second and third. Geerts eventually got back around, minimizing damage and securing second in the race.
The two rivals started side by side in fourth and fifth during race two while other competitors capitalized. Simon Langenfelder led the second MX2 race while both Vialle and Geerts faced their struggles. Mistakes from Geerts saw him lose a few positions early on but a fall from Vialle allowed the Yamaha rider to slip by. Feeling the late-race momentum, Geerts made a pass for the lead which he held to the end of the race. Vialle charged back for second with the two trading race wins on the day. Eventually, Geerts took the overall ahead of Vialle and Langenfelder. CN
