The game of musical chairs known as “Silly Season” is seeing pieces fall into place for the 2027 SuperMotocross World Championship season as team announcements continue to trickle in. Scroll down to see some of the recent developments.
Shane McElrath announced his time with the Quad Lock Honda team will come to an end after this year’s AMA Pro Motocross Championship. During their two years together, McElrath won the Australian SX2 Championship and the World Supercross SX2 Championship. No confirmation yet where he’ll land in 2027, but it sounds like it will be a full-time ride on a 450 team.

BETA USA
Shane McElrath has found a new home at the Liqui Moly Beta Race Team where he’ll race the Factory Beta RX 450F in the 450SX division for the next two seasons. He’ll debut with the team at the opening round of the SuperMotocross Playoffs in Colombus, Ohio. This new deal looks to be Supercross-only and sees McElrath racing alongside Benny Bloss while replacing Mitchell Oldenburg.
“I’m so excited to finally get to announce our partnership with Beta Factory Racing!” said McElrath. “They have given me a great opportunity, and I’m excited to work alongside such a longstanding brand for the next 2 years and beyond. We are both eager to perform well at the highest level, and we will stop at nothing less. Let’s go racing!”
Alongside McElrath will be current Beta rider, Benny Bloss, as he’s agreed to a new two-year contract extension to race the Beta RX 450F in the 450SX class. Bloss started with the Beta USA brand during their inaugural Supercross campaign back in 2024 and will continue with the team through 2028.
“Signing on for two more years with Beta was an easy call,” Bloss said. “This is the longest I’ve been in one place in my whole career, and there’s a reason for that. Everyone here works together like family, and they’ve stood by me through the good weekends and the hard ones. We built this program from nothing in 2024, and we’re not done.”
RED BULL KTM
Julien Beaumer announced he’s re-signed with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team through the 2027 SMX World Championship and beyond. Beaumer joined KTM’s factory program back in 2024 and has seen success by winning both Supercross and Pro Motocross events.
“I’m really stoked to announce that I’ve extended my contract with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing,” Beaumer said. “I can’t thank them enough for the belief and hard work they put in. These last three years have been amazing and I couldn’t be happier to be with the group of people that I’m with.”
Joining Beaumer under the Red Bull KTM tent are the Coenen brothers as both Lucas and Sacha Coenen announced they’ll be racing full-time in the AMA SuperMotocross World Championship for 2027 and beyond. The Belgian twin brothers just signed a multi-year deal to remain as Red Bull KTM factory riders as they conclude their run in the FIM MXGP World Championship. Lucas is set to race the 450 division with Sacha remaining on the 250cc machine. Both riders had a successful debut in AMA Pro Motocross this earlier summer but suffered injures at the Southwick round.
“I’m pumped to be able to confirm that we’ll be in the U.S. next year,” Lucas said. “When we went to Thunder Valley it was amazing and we’ve also been bringing the results for the team in GPs until some bad luck with the hip problem. 2027 will be a big change for the family but it’s a dream to make this move. Thanks to everyone at Red Bull KTM for making this next chapter possible.”
“Super-excited,” Sacha added. “We still have big goals for the rest of MX2 this year but to have this deal confirmed means we can focus on the target and also get organized for 2027. There will be a lot to learn but it’s what we want to do. It’s very cool to have this opportunity. I can’t wait already.”
Jorge Prado will stick with the familiar Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team as he’s signed a multi-year contract extension to remain in the SuperMotocross World Championship for 2027 and beyond. The two-time MXGP World Champion reunited with the KTM team this year and earned two 450SX podium results in Supercross along with two podiums in the first eight rounds of the Pro Motocross Championship. He currently sits third in the combined 450SMX standings.
“I’m really happy to have re-signed with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, because we’ve had great past seasons winning in MXGP, and this past year was great in Supercross,” Prado said. “We achieved some podiums, had a couple of heat race wins, and now we’ve been very strong outdoors. I’m just happy to be working with this great group of people for the future, so I am super-excited and hopeful that we can achieve our goals.”
The rest of the KTM roster is unknown as we’re already sure of Aaron Plessinger’s deal being up at the end of this season along with near-certainty of him moving to a different manufacturer. Eli Tomac is also on a one-year deal with the Red Bull KTM team and we are still unsure if he’ll re-up for the 2027 season. Silly season is just that – silly – and we’ll have to wait ’til at least October 1 for more confirmations. CN
