2021 Spring Creek Pro Motocross Rnd 6 Results. The halfway mark of the 2021 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship saw a bit of a shakeup in both the 450MX and 250MX classes, with 450 points leader Dylan Ferrandis experiencing his first hiccup of the season and championship rival Ken Roczen suffering a first-moto DNF. In the 250MX class, the points leader going into the race, Jett Lawrence, had two tough motos (again) and surrendered the red plate to rival Justin Cooper.

This all went down at the Circle K Spring Creek National at Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minnesota, round six of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, where Justin Barcia captured the overall 450MX-class win, and Jeremy Martin became the sixth different person to win the overall this year in the 250MX class. Never before has the 250cc season started off with six different winners.
450MX National
Roczen turned what could’ve been a disastrous day in regard to the 450MX Championship into a somewhat positive one, depending on how you look at it. Roczen returned to the pits with sore ribs following a multi-rider crash in the first turn of the first moto and sat out the race, concerned that he might have suffered a broken rib or two in the fall. When it appeared he was okay, he returned in a big way by winning the second moto rather convincingly. He started off second but quickly reeled in and passed first-moto winner Barcia. Roczen then responded to a few attacks by Barcia during the race and went on to take the win, which was big for the Honda rider, because the championship leader, Dylan Ferrandis, had his worst moto of the year after finishing second in the first moto.
Ferrandis had a bad start and crashed at least once to take fifth in the second race, which was the first time he had finished off the podium in a moto all season. However, despite that, Ferrandis still managed to up his points advantage significantly over Roczen in the 450MX Championship because of Roczen’s first-moto DNF.

For Roczen, even though he lost big ground to Ferrandis in the championship, it could’ve been far worse. Roczen might have surrendered 13 points to Ferrandis on the day at Millville, but it easily could have been double that had he not rebounded so dramatically in race two.
Stealing the spotlight away from both riders, however, was Barcia’s two solid motos on the TLD/RedBull GasGas, which resulted in the overall victory. He gave the GasGas brand its first-ever AMA 450 Pro MX moto win in race one and then took second in moto two, which was enough to give GasGas its first-ever AMA 450 Pro MX overall victory. For Barcia, it was his first 450 outdoor victory since the Ironman National in 2018.
Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) came from deep in the field to finish an impressive third in the first moto and based on his last three second-moto races, which were all wins, he was looking good for the overall victory. However, Tomac suffered another bad star, and his drive to the front stalled out while running fourth behind Roczen, Barcia and Chase Sexton, when he simply ran out of energy after exerting so much of it in race one. Still, Tomac was rewarded with second overall with a 3-4.
Ferrandis’ podium streak remained intact when it comes to overalls. His 2-5 netted the Frenchman third overall.

Sexton, who went flying over the handlebars in the same crash that claimed his Honda HRC teammate Roczen, went an impressive 7-3 for fourth overall, and Christian Craig (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) rounded out the top five overall with a solid 4-6.
Roczen’s DNF-1 was good enough for eighth overall.
It was literally a zero-day for Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo who eventually pulled out of the first moto after falling and irritating a hand injury and opted not to show up for race two, failing to score any points on the day. As a result, Cianciarulo dropped from seventh to ninth in the championship.
After a decent sixth in the first moto, Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) suffered a spectacular crash while battling near the front of the pack in the second moto after touching rear wheels with Sexton over a jump. Webb was slow to his feet but finished out the moto in 23rd, unable to salvage any points in the moto.
In the race for the 450MX Championship, Ferrandis now has a healthy 32-point lead over Roczen with six races (12 motos) remaining on the schedule.
Barcia jumped from fifth to third in the championship and now trails Roczen by 23 points.
Tomac dropped back a position to fourth but is just two points behind Barcia.
Sexton is a distant fifth in the championship.

250MX National
In the 250MX class, the local fans got to see one of their heroes take the overall win. Jeremy Martin (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha). His parents own the Spring Creek facility, and he won both motos, despite coming into the racing nursing a number of nagging injuries. Martin took the opening-moto win after out-dueling his teammate Justin Cooper, then he went wire-to-wire in the second moto to claim the overall victory. Unfortunately for the former two-time 250MX champ, Martin has three no-point motos earlier this season means he has little chance to win back the number-one plate this year. But the win did shoot him from eighth to fourth in the championship. He trails the third-place rider, Hunter Lawrence, by 35 points and new class leader Cooper by 68 points.
As mentioned, Cooper is the new red-plate holder, having taking it away from Jett Lawrence. The Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha Team rider, Cooper, came into the Spring Creek round trailing Lawrence by just three points but leaves with a six-point lead after going 2-3 for third overall.
Poor starts, once again, got the best of the now-former points leader Lawrence, especially in the second moto when he got caught up in an ugly multi-rider pileup early in the race that also knocked RJ Hampshire (mechanical) and Pierce Brown (injury) out of the race. (Garrett Marchbanks, Jarrett Frye and Jalek Swoll were also caught up in the mayhem.) Lawrence ended up going 4-6 on the day for fourth overall.

It was a banner day for Michael Mosiman who took second overall in the 250MX class and gave GasGas two podiums on the day. The TLD/Red Bull/GasGas Team rider showed great speed and aggression in both motos, making some big passes (including one on Cooper) en route to his 3-2 moto finishes.
Hunter Lawrence, who found himself battling his little brother, Jett, a few times on the day, went 5-5 to round out the top five overall.
Austin Forkner finally had a breakthrough ride this season. Having struggled in every 250MX moto held so far, Forkner finally showed his true potential again after running fourth pretty much the whole way in the second moto. A first-moto 17th equaled eighth overall for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Team rider.
RedBud winner RJ Hampshire went 6-DNF on the day. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Team rider got trackside banners hopelessly entangled in his bike’s rear-wheel when he and Pierce Brown in that pileup in the second moto and was forced to retire to the pits. As a result, Hampshire dropped from fourth to fifth in the championship but is just one point ahead of Shimoda.
Brown reportedly suffered a laceration to his knee. CN
