2017 Las Vegas 450cc SX Results: Nine points sat between defending champ Ryan Dungey and challenger Eli Tomac coming into the final night of racing for the 2017 Monster Energy/AMA Supercross Series. That meant that if Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Tomac took the win, Red Bull KTM’s Dungey had to finish fourth or better to win the championship.
At the start of the main event, Dungey got the holeshot, but Tomac was on him right away and passed his way into the lead and began to sprint off. Within a few laps, though, Dungey began gaining on Tomac, as did the rest of the field. Tomac was baiting Dungey, knowing he couldn’t win the title if Dungey cruised it on in for second place.

Around halfway, Dungey took the bait and passed Tomac, only for Tomac to immediately shove him off the track before the triple. Dungey skipped the triple and rejoined in second place. Tomac kept baiting him, and Dungey bought it again on the final lap.

Tomac ran it in hard on Dungey, shoving him off the track again, which opened the door for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson to take the lead. Tomac tried to gather it back, but Anderson was too far ahead with only a few turns left, and Anderson took the win just in front of Tomac and Tomac’s teammate Josh Grant, with Dungey finishing fourth and narrowly escaping with his third-consecutive 450cc SX title.
