2017 Las Vegas 250cc SX Results: The 2017 Las Vegas Supercross is going to go down as one of the greatest supercross events of all time. There were two championships up for grabs, and both of them went down to the last lap of each of the main events.

To start with, there was the 250cc East/West Shootout, where both coasts combined to see who was really the fastest, and since it pays points, it was an added element just waiting to throw a wrench into the one remaining 250cc SX title chase – the East.

Off the start, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo got the holeshot and his teammate – and East championship contender – Joey Savatgy was right behind him, but ran into trouble on the second lap and dropped back to seventh, two spots behind points leader Jordon Smith of the TLD/Red Bull KTM team. However, they were miles ahead of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne (winner of the most main events on the East this season) who found himself down on the ground on the outside of the first turn, with his Husky underneath KTM privateer Dakota Alix’s machine. And Alix wasn’t helping. Alix got up limping, and Osborne had to pick Alix’s bike up off of his, and get the footpeg out of his motorcycle’s spokes. By the time he got going, his championship was assumed to be over.

However, Smith made a costly error and handed his spot over to Savatgy on lap two, then went down on the fastest part of the track trying to get Savatgy back. Smith’s championship run was over.

As Osborne continued to work his way valiantly through the field, Savatgy started losing spots until, with two laps to go, Osborne passed Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Mitchell Harrison and could see Savatgy as the next guy on the track.

With one lap to go, Osborne was getting closer, but still not close enough to strike. Cianciarulo took the win, and the crowd didn’t even notice, because Osborne closed up on Savatgy through the first set of whoops, and then through the second set, Osborne “sent it” and Savatgy left the door open in the left-hander – the second-to-last turn of the race – and Osborne punted him. For the championship.

Osborne’s completed perhaps the greatest single-race performance in the history of the sport and took home the 2017 250cc East championship.

And in the race, which was almost inconsequential, 250cc West champ Justin Hill finished second behind his teammate Cianciarulo, and Harrison’s teammate Aaron Plessinger finished third, just in front of his other teammate Dylan Ferrandis, Smith’s teammate Mitchell Oldenberg, GEICO Honda’s Jimmy Decotis, and then 250cc East champ Zach Osborne.
