2017 Las Vegas SX Qualifying: Qualifying is over at Sam Boyd Stadium, and in the 450cc class, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson topped the time sheets with a 1:05.184 to qualify first. Among the two championship contenders, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac was fastest, qualifying second with a 1:05.767 on the very hard, blue-groove racetrack.

The windy, warm, and very dry conditions made the track seem unpredictable, with hard straightaways and soft, crumbly turns. Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin was third in qualifying with a 1:05.960, and then came Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM’s Davi Millsaps (1:06.124), Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Josh Grant (1:06.347), JGR Suzuki’s Justin Barcia (1:06.360) and Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey (1:06.413). If the daytime laptimes are any indication, the 450cc main event should be about 18 laps or less.
If Eli Tomac wins the main event, Dungey has to finish fourth or better to secure his third AMA Supercross championship in a row.

In the 250cc class, the combined 250cc East/West qualifying times showed Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo to be the fastest, but among the Eastern Regional championship contenders, it was Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne who was the fastest (second-fastest overall). The other championship contenders, Cianciarulo’s teammate Joey Savatgy and TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Jordon Smith, qualified fourth and seventh overall, respectively.
Of the three, pretty much whichever racer defeats the other two will be the champion.
