The 2026 Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch is underway for the 45th running of the most prestigious race in amateur competition. 24 different motos highlighted the opening day of racing action. Day 1 Highlights
Moto 1: 85cc (10-12)
The opening moto of the 85cc (10-12) class began with Sun Powersports KTM’s Eli Herrick grabbing the holeshot and leading the field into the opening laps. JM Mitchel Racing KTM’s Weston Otto settled into second, with GASGAS rider Nolan Cobb close behind as the trio quickly established themselves at the front of the field.
With Herrick controlling the pace the battle for second intensified between Otto and Cobb. Cobb attempted to make a pass and the two riders made contact and went down, promoting Altus Motorsports bLU cRU Yamaha’s Jaydin Smart to second and KTM Orange Brigade’s Beckham Smith to third. Otto remounted in fifth, while Cobb dropped outside the top 30.
Smart immediately began reeling in the race leader, closing a gap of over four seconds in just one lap. He continued his charge and made a pass on Herrick for the lead at the halfway point of the race before pulling away.
Herrick’s race then took a turn for the worse as he dropped out of contention and allowed Smith to inherit second. From there, Smart was untouchable, charging from a seventh-place start to secure the Moto 1 victory by 9.7 seconds over Smith. Owen Motor Sports KTM’s Logan Lustig completed the podium in third, followed by B’s Moto Lab KTM’s Levi Geis and MotoBros KTM’s Anderson Waldele in fourth and fifth.
85cc (10-12) Moto 1 Results

Moto 1: Mini Sr. 1
The opening Mini Sr. 1 moto got underway with ClubMX KTM’s Joey Vicari putting himself in perfect position by grabbing the holeshot and leading from the get go. GASGAS’ Eidan Steinbrecher settled into second, with B’s Moto Lab Husqvarna’s Landon Lee completing the top three.
Vicari quickly took advantage of clean track and built a lead of more than two seconds, but Steinbrecher stayed close and steadily chipped away at the deficit. After several laps, the GASGAS rider closed to within striking distance and made a clean pass for the lead. Moments later, Vicari slid out and dropping several positions to end his bid for the win.
This allowed Steinbrecher to stretch his advantage to more than five seconds over Lee, who inherited second. Lynks Racing KTM rider Mason Murdy also benefited from Vicari’s misfortune and moved into third. Steinbrecher controlled the moto with consistent pace. Lee turned some of the fastest laps and gradually trimmed the gap over the closing laps, but he was never close enough to mount a serious challenge for the lead.
Steinbrecher captured the opening Mini Sr. 1 moto by 2.6 seconds over Lee. Murdy completed the podium in third, while Vicari recovered from his mistake to salvage fourth. RMArmy Suzuki rider Chase Brennan rounded out the top five with a steady ride.

Moto 1: Mini Sr. 2
ClubMX KTM’s Joey Vicari again proved to be the rider to beat when the gate dropped for the opening Mini Sr. 2 moto as he launched to another holeshot and the early lead. Valley Yamaha rider Talon Medaglia settled into second, while KTM’s Whalyn Ballenger completed the top three.
With open track ahead, Vicari immediately pulled away from the field and built an advantage that continued to grow with each lap. Medaglia maintained a comfortable hold on second but was unable to match the leader’s pace. Behind him, Eidan Steinbrecher made an impressive charge after starting seventh. Steinbrecher worked his way into podium contention before the halfway point and soon passed Ballenger for third. A few laps later, he made another pass on Medaglia for second, with Vicari stretching his lead to well over ten seconds.
Vicari remained flawless from start to finish and completed a dominant wire-to-wire performance, crossing the line 12.8 seconds clear of second place. Steinbrecher’s late charge secured second, while Medaglia completed the podium in third. Lynks Racing KTM’s Mason Murdy finished fourth after another consistent ride, with Ballenger holding on for fifth.
Mini Sr. 2 (13-15) Moto 1 Results

Moto 1: 250 Pro Sport
One of the most anticipated motos of opening day delivered immediately as Team Husqvarna Amateur Racing’s Max Shane grabbed the holeshot over the 250 Pro Sport field. ClubMX Yamaha teammates Jesson Turner and Ryder Malinoski tucked in behind Shane, setting the stage for an early battle among three of the class favorites.
Shane fought hard to defend the lead, but Turner remained within striking distance and capitalized on a small mistake by the Husqvarna rider to take over the top spot. Malinoski quickly followed his teammate into second, allowing the ClubMX duo to break away from the rest of the field.
The teammates soon found themselves locked in an exciting battle for the lead with more than five seconds separating them from the chasing pack. Turner successfully defended several pass attempts, but Malinoski continued to apply pressure before finally finding a way around.
Once in front, Malinoski gradually increased his advantage as the laps wound down with Turner staying close for several laps. Malinoski captured the opening 250 Pro Sport moto victory by three seconds over Turner, giving ClubMX Yamaha a one-two finish. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider Landon Gibson charged from 10th to take third, while Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Carson Wood also worked forward from outside the top five to finish fourth. Shane rounded out the top five.
250 Pro Sport Moto 1 Results

Moto 1: 65cc (10-11) Limited
The opening moto of the 65cc (10-11) Limited class featured plenty of early drama as Team Husqvarna Amateur Racing’s Abshur Hall grabbed the holeshot ahead of KTM Orange Brigade’s Talon Rogers and GPF KTM’s Luke Taylor. Hall quickly looked to establish control, but an off-track excursion dropped him back through the field. Moments later, Taylor also ran into trouble and crash while running second, thus handing the lead to Rogers.
The chaos up front created the perfect opportunity for TCD Racing KTM’s Levi Leddy, who put together one of the most impressive rides of the day. After starting outside the top 10, Leddy sliced through the field and stormed from seventh to first in a single lap, making a decisive pass on Rogers for the lead.
Once out front, Leddy immediately opened an advantage while Rogers came under heavy pressure from Cobra Elite Factory Racing teammates Shannon Tarnow and Yumena Berning. Berning worked her way past Tarnow before making another pass on Rogers for second. Tarnow soon followed into third.
Berning steadily chipped away at Leddy’s lead over the second half of the moto, but the KTM rider never faltered. Leddy maintained his composure to capture the opening moto victory by 2.5 seconds over Berning. Tarnow completed the podium in third, while Invictus GASGAS rider Joao Ferreira Jr. finished fourth. Rogers rounded out the top five after spending much of the moto inside podium contention.
65cc (10-11) Limited Moto 1 Results

Moto 1: 25+
The 25+ class once again showcased an impressive lineup of former professional racers, making it one of the most anticipated divisions of the week. Let’s Ride Honda’s Jake Weimer grabbed the holeshot and led the opening lap, but former Pro Motocross Champion Zach Osborne, aboard his Liqui Moly Beta, quickly moved into second and began applying pressure.
Osborne wasted little time taking over the lead from Weimer on the second lap. Behind them, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Phil Nicoletti closed the gap to create a three-rider fight for the lead during the opening stages of the moto.
At the halfway point, Osborne laid down his fastest lap of the race and made a small gap over Weimer and Nicoletti. Nicoletti remained glued to Weimer’s rear wheel before briefly losing touch. In the closing laps, slower traffic held up Weimer and let Nicoletti make the pass for second.
Osborne remained untouchable, cruising to the Moto 1 victory by 5.9 seconds. Nicoletti’s late charge earned him second, while Weimer rounded out the podium in third. ClubMX Yamaha’s Brandon Haas finished fourth, with Yamaha rider Jud Wisdom completing the top five.
Junior (25+) Moto 1 Results

Moto 1: 250 B
Team Husqvarna Amateur Racing’s Brennon Harrison started his week in perfect fashion by grabbing the holeshot in the opening 250 B moto ahead of LA Services/Wilco Crane Yamaha’s Ryan Jaramillo and Fasst Company KTM’s Grayson Townsend.
With clear track, Harrison immediately established himself as the rider to beat, opening a lead of more than five seconds in the opening laps. Behind him, Jaramillo and Townsend were forced to contend with a charging Tanner Dorman on the EBR Performance Yamaha. After starting in fourth, Dorman steadily worked his way through the field before taking over second.
The battle for the final podium position then shifted to Jaramillo and Thor KTM rider Tomi Doble. After several laps of pressure, Doble completed the pass to move into third.
Out front, Harrison controlled the pace from start to finish and was never seriously challenged as he secured a wire-to-wire win by 4.7 seconds. Dorman held on to second while Doble completed the podium in third. Rob’s Performance KTM rider Ryder Skodras finished a solid fourth, with Jaramillo rounding out the top five after an impressive opening-lap performance.
250 B Moto 1 Results

Moto 1: Women’s
The opening Women’s moto delivered one of the most exciting finishes of the day. Hannah Hodges put her Triumph out front early, over KTM’s Piper Bell and TiLube KTM’s Callie Sutton. Behind them, SLR Honda’s Mayla Herrick quickly went to work after starting fourth, making consecutive passes to move into second before setting the fastest lap of the race and taking over the lead.
Herrick immediately broke away from the field, opening an advantage of more than 16 seconds and later stretching her lead beyond 30 seconds. With the leader seemingly out of reach, attention shifted to the battle for the remaining podium positions.
Meanwhile, Yamaha’s Jordan Jarvis carved her way through the field to fourth after starting back in 17th. She continued her charge by passing Bell and Hodges to move into second.
Late-race drama unfolded as Herrick crashed with only a few laps remaining, cutting her lead significantly. She suffered another fall on the final lap and allowed Jarvis to close to within striking distance. Lapped riders forced both riders onto alternate lines through the closing corners, but Herrick managed to hang on and secured an incredible victory by just one-tenth of a second. Jarvis settled for a hard-fought runner-up finish, while Hodges completed the podium in third ahead of Bell and Altus Motorsports bLU cRU Yamaha rider Zoe Moore.
