2017 Minneapolis 250cc Supercross Results: Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy came into the Minneapolis Supercross with a kind of pressure he hadn’t experienced yet; for the first time so far in his career, Savatgy came into a series as the likely favorite to win. Savatgy was second in points in the 2016 250cc West, losing to Cooper Webb by one point.
He was ready for the pressure.
Savatgy qualified second during the day, about a half-second behind Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne, and all hell broke loose at the start of the main event. TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Jordon Smith took the early lead while teammate Alex Martin had his second bit of bad luck for the night when he went down on the outside of the first turn. Two turns later, Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Colt Nichols and KTM privateer Dakota Alix touch rear wheels in the air while battling over second place and go down spectacularly.

Over the next nine laps, Savatgy – who was gifted second when Nichols and Alix crashed together – reeled Smith in, and on lap nine, with Osborne in tow, Savatgy found his way by for the lead. Osborne followed suit a lap later, then began reeling Savatgy in for the lead. A few laps later, while pressuring Savatgy for the lead, Osborne accidentally found neutral in a right-hand turn and went down. He got up in third, then began reeling Smith back in, while Smith did likewise with Savatgy, but both would come up just short at the finish.
The win went to Savatgy over Smith and Osborne. Then came GEICO Honda’s RJ Hampshire, Savatgy’s teammate Adam Cianciarulo, French newcomer Dylan Ferrandis, and the rest of the field. Nichols eventually finished a solid 10th after his opening-lap fall, while heat-race winner Christian Craig struggled to a disappointing 12th place.
