AUSTIN, TX, APRIL 9 – The debut of the new U.S. Superbike Championship—MotoAmerica—got underway this afternoon at the Circuit of The Americas and leading the way was Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier with a 2:10.851.
Behind Beaubier and also in the 2:10s was Yoshimura Suzuki’s Roger Hayden. In third was Josh Hayes on the other Monster Energy Graves Yamaha ahead of Hayden’s teammate, rookie Jake Lewis.
Last year’s Daytona Sportbike Champion—Jake Gagne—started his debut weekend on a 1000cc machine as the top Superstock 1000 rider of the session in fifth. Behind Gagne was Chris Fillmore on the HMC Racing KTM.
Fillmore’s former teammate from a few seasons ago, Taylor Knapp was seventh overall and second in the Superstock 1000 class on a Yamaha. Behind Knapp was a pair of HSBK Racing Aprilia’s—Devon McDonough and Dustin Dominguez.
In ninth overall was Geoff May who is filling in for fallen rider Dane Westby on the Yamalube Westby Racing Yamaha in the Superstock 1000 class. Rounding out the top 10 was Tyler O’Hara, also on Superstock 1000 Yamaha.
In Supersport, Latus Motors Racing Triumph’s Bobby Fong led the way ahead of Yamalube Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha’s Garrett Gerloff. In third was Wheels In Motion Motorsports.com Meen Yamaha’s Josh Herrin, who has the most time at CoTA with his time in Moto2 here last season. Road Race Factory’s Tomas Puerta, also on a Yamaha, was fourth.
Gerloff’s teammate JD Beach ended the day in fifth ahead of M4 Suzuki’s David Anthony. Kyle Wyman was seventh on his self-ran Yamaha effort. In eighth was Herrin’s teammate Joe Roberts. Rounding out the top 10 was Cameron Petersen on the Road Race Factory Yamaha and Benny Solis Jr. on the TeamH35 MV Agusta.
