“I think this is something I’ve earned the right to do,” Webb said. “I also think that when I look at Ken Roczen this year, or some of the other past champions like Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey, it shows that a Supercross-only deal is extending your career. Like we saw with Ken this year, he was the champion. I don’t think it’s hurting performance. If anything, it keeps you fresher and more motivated, and it also lets us hone our supercross skills. For me, I’ve been better at supercross, so if I can continue to be as good as I am, or somehow get better in my older age in supercross, it’s going to keep me in the game even longer.”

Webb admits he’s “lost his step” in motocross. “Right now, I’d say I’m kind of in that sixth- to 10th-place guy with the Pro Motocross. This is the longest I’ve raced the series in a long time [due to health reasons]. The last time I raced the full series was 2021. I kind of lost my step a little bit on the Pro Motocross, but it’s been fun. I’ve enjoyed the fans, and they’ve been super-interactive knowing it’s my last year. I feel like the fans have been really cool. Going to these places for the last time has been special. Going to some of the iconic places for the last time—places like RedBud and Hangtown and those kind of places—was kind of bittersweet. I’m just at the point where I just don’t have that fire to want to race them anymore. They were great, and I’ve had a lot of success at them, but at this point in my career, I feel like supercross is just the most important, and I definitely feel like I specialize in supercross. I want to go that avenue.”

Webb has not officially announced who he’ll be riding for next year, but it’s known it won’t be for his current Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team.CN
