Carmichael Takes Troy!

| July 22, 2001

Championship leader and reigning National Champion Ricky Carmichael rode his Kawasaki to 1-2 moto finishes at Kenworthy’s today, taking his fifth overall of the year in the AMA Chevy Trucks US MX Championship.

In the first moto, Carmichael beat Suzuki’s Kevin Windham and Honda’s Sebastien Tortelli, with Mike LaRocco and Stephane Roncada rounding out the top five finishers.

In the second moto, Tim Ferry rode his factory Yamaha YZ426 to victory, but ended up finishing eighth overall due to a poor result in the first moto (31st). Following Ferry home was Carmichael, LaRocco, who took second in the overall via his 4-3 tally, and Ryan Hughes.

Carmichael now has a comfortable 48-point lead over Suzuki’s Kevin Windham, 346-298. Sitting another 21 points behind Windham is Yamaha’s Ferry with 277 points, one point ahead of LaRocco.

Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Mike Brown won both motos in the 125cc class to take the overall, while championship contenders Travis Pastrana – coming off his most recent concussion – and Grant Langston struggled in both races. Pastrana finished eighth overall with 5-10 finishes, while Langston finished sixth with a 4-8 tally. Second and third overall were Yamaha of Troy’s Ernesto Fonseca (6-2) and Brock Sellards (3-5), respectively.
