Scott Redding and Kyle Ryde were the big winners at round two of the ZYN British Superbike Championship at Donington Park, May 16-17. Redding (Hager PBM Racing Team) celebrated his first victory of the season on Saturday, while Ryde (Nitrous Coin Nitrous Competitions Racing) swept races two and three on Sunday.
Rain cut race one short, with Redding taking the win just ahead of early leader Max Cook (AJN Steelstock bimota) and Ryde. Leon Haslam (Moto Rapido Racing) was fourth and Christian Iddon (Sencat Racing Yamaha) fifth.
Redding, Ryde and Cook were back at it again on Sunday for races two and three. In race one, was able to pull clear of Redding to take the win by 1.8 seconds, with Cook taking third another two seconds back Cook was third, followed by Bradley Ray (McAMS Yamaha) and Haslam.
Ryde led the whole way in the final race three, that saw the safety car deployed for a downed rider. When racing resumed, Ryde stayed calm under pressure, taking the checkers 1.9 seconds ahead of Redding. Cook was again third, followed by Ray and Haslam.
“It was very difficult in the last race with Scott right up my chuff for 16, 17 laps,” Ryde said after his Sunday sweep. “I was hoping that Scott or Max were burning more tires than I was in the first sector while trying to catch me back up, because I know they were better than I was there.
“Once I saw the board with three or four laps to go, I just got my head down and tried to do my fastest laps, which I did. And that won me the race.
“There was a lot going on in that last race, including the safety car, and we all dealt with that very well.”
Ryde is holding firm at the top of the championship leaderboard, with 104 points to Redding’s 85. Haslam is third on 82, followed by Ray on 75 and Cook on 73.CN
