Lets go Glendale! Round five of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship and SuperMotocross World Championship is set to take over State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. This is the largest stadium floor of the year and the track is already shaping up nicely for tonight’s racing. Here’s what’s happening in Arizona.

450 MAIN EVENT
The 450 main event kicked off with a huge crash on the start where points leader Eli Tomac found himself on the ground. Tomac was slow to get up and eventually remounted way back in dead last. He eventually passed all the way up to 12th but lost the points lead while doing so.

With Tomac way back, the battle for the lead was on between Hunter Lawrence and Ken Roczen. Lawrence led the first three laps but Roczen made a decisive pass for first as he jumped to the inside through the sand section just before the finish line.

After Roczen took over the lead it was game over for the rest of the field. The Suzuki rider put in a series of sprint laps and was the fastest rider on track for nearly every sector. His lead eventually opened up to 3.5 seconds at checkered flag as Roczen scored his first win of the season. He’s now second in points, just five back from Hunter Lawrence.

Hunter Lawrence’s second on the night earned him the red plate as he takes over the points lead from Tomac. This is Lawrence’s fourth second-place finish in a row but his consistency is paying off with more laps led and the series lead.

Cooper Webb found himself on the podium once again in third. Webb’s race was on the quiet side as he followed the Lawrence/Roczen battle in the opening laps. He eventually lost the tow to the lead but still managed to hold off his teammate Justin Cooper and Jorge Prado who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

250 MAIN EVENT
Haiden Deegan dominated the 250 main event for the fourth weekend in a row. The Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha rider made things easy on himself with a great start and secured the holeshot right from the get go. Deegan led every lap of the 250 main event and rode untouched out front. This marks his fourth win in a row as he once again scores maximum points on the rest of the field and extends his lead to 27 0ver Michael Mosiman.

Levi Kitchen started way outside the top five but slowly began chipping away at the front runners. The Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider continued to pass his way through the field and was the fastest rider on track for the whole second half of the race. Eventually he found himself in the mix for a podium position and passed both McAdoo and Mosiman for a spot on the box. This is Kitchen’s second podium in two weeks.

Cameron McAdoo finished third for the second week in a row. He battled with Ryder DiFrancesco for the first half of the main event and looked be on the outside looking in for a podium position. McAdoo found some serious pace in the later stages of the race and re-passed Ryder D while also catching a tow from his teammate Kitchen. With one lap to go, McAdoo made his move around Mosiman for third and secured his spot on the box.

Michael Mosiman ran second for most of the main event but lost spots to Kitchen and McAdoo in the final few laps. He finished fourth with Ryder DiFrancesco rounding out the top five.

HEAT RACES

QUALIFYING #2
450 qualifying brought the heat as all the top dogs went at it and set the fastest times. First it was Ken Roczen, then Eli Tomac, then Joey Savatgy, then Jorge Prado. Prado’s lap held up as the fastest time of the day with a 56.4 late in the session. Tomac uncorked a huge quad line before the mechanics area but it still wasn’t enough to dethrone his KTM teammate Prado. He was 0.009 behind Prado. Ken Roczen’s time held up for third, just three-tenths off of Prado. Hunter Lawrence and Chase Sexton rounded out the top five overall.

The second 250 qualifying session put on a show as the riders all traded top times in quick succession. Ryder DiFrancesco, Levi Kitchen, and Haiden Deegan all picked up their pace as the session wore on and slowly brought their times down. In the end Haiden Deegan put in a burner lap and set the time to beat. This makes up for his penalty earlier as he goes to the line with the first gate pick. “I can’t let these guys think they have a chance,” Deegan said.

Levi Kitchen was second overall, just one-tenth back from Deegan. These two were the only riders on the 56-second lap. Kitchen towed his Pro Circuit teammate Cameron McAdoo in on the fast lap as the two finished second and third respectively. McAdoo was nine-tenths back from Deegan’s pace. Max Vohland clocked the fourth best time with Ryder DiFrancesco rounding out the top five.

QUALIFYING #1
The 450 heavy hitters came out swinging in the first qualifying session. Eli Tomac snatched the fastest lap late in the session on his Red Bull KTM. Tomac is based out of Arizona during the first few rounds of Supercross so it comes as no real surprise that he’s on top early here in Glendale. Chase Sexton was a close second, just two tenths off the pace from Tomac. Aaron Plessinger rounded out the podium in Q1 with the third best time.

Haiden Deegan set the fastest lap in the first qualifying session but it appears his time was taken away after the times ended, likely due to a sound failure or another penalty from the AMA. This moved Ryder DiFrancesco to the top spot as he originally sat second at the end of Q1 and bumped Deegan to second. Levi Kitchen clocked third and looked good after scoring his first podium of the season one week ago.
