Suzuki has dropped a bomb by releasing details of the highly revised GSX-R1000R superbike to celebrate 40 years of the GSX-R moniker.
The model will come in two forms, a GSX-R1000R 40th Anniversary Edition and the base model GSX-R1000.
Suzuki’s 1000cc machine dates back to 2000 and is the second longest running liter-class superbike behind Yamaha’s YZF-R1, which debuted two years before in 1998.

Due to arrive in dealer showrooms in Spring, 2026, the GSX-R’s engine features revised injectors, cylinder heads, Suzuki’s variable valve timing system with reduced valve overlap, finger follower valve train, 2mm larger throttle bodies at 48mm, a wider cam chain, camshafts, larger intake and exhaust valves, pistons, a new crankshaft, and a new, thinner and longer Euro5-compliant exhaust. Compression has also been bumped from 13.2:1 to 13.8:1.
The updated engine now delivers a claimed 192hp at 13,200rpm and 81.lb-ft of torque at 11,000rpm, although eagle-eye readers will note these figures are down on the previous model’s claimed 199hp and 86.lb-ft at 10,800rpm.
The chassis remains unchanged in the twin-spar aluminum design that was last updated in 2017 with suspension also carried over from the old bike in the fully adjustable upside-down Showa Balance Free Front (BFF) forks, and a fully-adjustable rear shock. Brakes come from Brembo in their radially-mounted four-piston calipers and 320mm discs.

Bodywork comes in two versions, with the base model free of downforce winglets to give the bike a classically, clean look, but Suzuki has homologated winglets as part of their accessory range that you can add on if you like.
As for electronics, it’s industry standard stuff in the Bosch IMU, cornering ABS, multi-stage traction and wheelie control, up and down quickshifter, ride by wire throttle featuring adjustable ride and throttle modes, launch control, one-touch easy start, and a lithium-ion battery.
The 2026 Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000S comes in three retro-inspired color schemes—Pearl Vigor Blue/Tech White, Candy Daring Red/Tech White, and Pearl Ignite Yellow/Stellar Blue—each featuring unique anniversary badging and custom trim details.
