The 42nd annual Dubya World Vet Motocross Championships returned to Glen Helen Raceway for three days of racing, October 30 through November 1.

The annual event brought riders from around the world to Southern California, including former factory racers, longtime veterans and amateurs alike. With Glen Helen’s changing track conditions and rain throughout the weekend, riders faced added challenges as the event progressed. The 30+, 40+ and 50+ Pro divisions highlighted the weekend’s racing, while the World Vet Cup of Nations brought an international element to the event, with riders representing their respective countries across three age divisions.

Saturday’s racing featured the Pasha 125cc 30+ Pro class, where Josh Mosiman continued his success aboard the small-bore two-strokes. Mosiman swept both motos aboard his KTM, taking the overall victory with perfect 1-1 scores. Giacomo Redondi finished second in each moto for second overall, while Sean Lipanovich rounded out the podium with 4-3 finishes. Colton Aeck narrowly missed the podium with 3-5 scores, and Brian Medeiros completed the top five with 5-4 results. The victory gave Mosiman his first Pro-class win of the weekend before lining up for Sunday’s 30+ Pro championship.

The 30+ Pro class produced one of the closest battles of the weekend, with the overall championship coming down to a last-lap pass in the final moto. Gary Sutherlin opened the day with a victory aboard his Husqvarna, finishing ahead of Redondi and Mosiman. In the second moto, Mosiman moved to the front while Sutherlin held second for the majority of the race. With his opening-moto victory, Sutherlin was in position to take the overall with 1-2 finishes. However, Redondi made a last-lap pass on Sutherlin for second, dropping the Husqvarna rider to third and changing the overall standings. The pass left Mosiman, Redondi and Sutherlin all tied at four points each, with Mosiman’s second-moto victory giving him the overall win with 3-1 scores. Redondi finished second overall with 2-2 results, while Sutherlin was pushed back to third with 1-3 finishes. RJ Wageman finished fourth with a pair of fourth-place results, while defending champion Brian Medeiros rounded out the top five with 7-5 scores.

The 40+ Pro class was a different story, as Justin McDonald went undefeated aboard his Honda. McDonald put together two moto wins for a perfect 1-1 day, with Sean Collier being his closest rival, finishing second in both races on his Yamaha. Mexico’s Martin Garcia took third overall with 3-3 scores, ahead of Pascal Dorseuil in fourth and Billy Jurevich in fifth. In the 50+ Pro division, Kris Keefer was another rider who couldn’t be beat, taking both moto wins aboard his Yamaha. Cam Negus followed with 2-3 finishes for second overall, while former professional racer Greg Schnell put together 4-2 scores to take the final podium position. Dorseuil added another fourth-place finish to his weekend, with Kurt Nicoll completing the top five.

The World Vet Cup of Nations brought riders back to the starting gate to represent their respective countries in the 30+, 40+, and 50+ divisions. Scott Champion raced for one of the three USA teams and came out on top in the 30+ class with 1-2 finishes. Giacomo Redondi made things interesting by winning the second moto for Team Italy. Redondi’s 3-1 scores put him second overall, while Sean Lipanovich (USA) finished third with 2-3 results. In the 40+ division, Justin McDonald (New Zealand) continued right where he left off in the Pro class, winning both motos for another perfect day. Martin Garcia (Mexico) finished second with 2-3 scores, followed by Kris Keefer (USA) in third with 4-2 finishes. The 50+ division saw Cam Negus (New Zealand) turn things around after finishing second to Keefer in the Pro class. Negus won both of his World Cup motos, while Greg Schnell finished second with 3-2 results. Longtime World Vet racer Doug Dubach also found himself on the podium for Team USA, finishing third with 2-3 scores.
The World Cup of Nations combined the results of three riders from each country across the different age divisions, with the lowest combined score determining the winning team. New Zealand came out on top with two of the USA teams finishing second and third.
