Husqvarna Unveils New Electric Pioneer for 2025
Rennie Scaysbrook | November 5, 2024
Husqvarna will expand its electric motorcycle lineup with the new Pioneer for 2025, essentially the Husqvarna version of the KTM Freeride.
Like the Freeride, the Pioneer gets a 5.5 kWh Li-Ion battery that is good for delivers a range of up to 85 miles (137 km) and runs for up to three hours. Its 11-kW motor generates a peak output of 19.2 kW/25 hp and 37.6 Nm/27.7 lb-ft of torque and is housed in a chromium-molybdenum frame.
The 5.5 kWh battery recharges fully in eight hours on a standard 110 V outlet, with a quick-swap feature allowing full replacement in ten minutes. Rated IP67, all critical components are dust and waterproof.
The Pioneer uses the motor and battery as stressed members of the chassis to help reduce weight and enhance stability. There’s three variable ride modes, traction control and three energy recuperation modes that also manage engine braking.
Unlike regular dirt bikes, the Pioneer’s rear brake is bicycle-style and mounts to the left handlebar. Of course, with only one gear and no clutch lever, this makes total sense and makes the Pioneer easier for new riders to learn on.
The Pioneer utilizes WP suspension with 9.8 in. front and 9.4 in. rear travel. Adjustable WP XACT forks, matched to a WP XPLOR PDS rear shock, take care of the suspension duties. Controls come in the form of ProTaper handlebars, Braktec brakes, and Michelin enduro tires.
Expect to see the Husqvarna Pioneer in dealers in January, 2025, with prices to be announced in the coming weeks.
