The FIM MXGP World Championship headed to the deep sands of Lommel for round 14 of the series. Arguably the toughest and most notorious track on the circuit, only the best sand riders stand atop the podium at the MXGP of Flanders. At the end of the day it was Brian Bogers taking the MXGP overall while Jago Geerts won the MX2 division and extended his points lead.

Jorge Prado got things started with a classic holeshot over Jeremy Seewer and Tim Gajser. Brain Bogers started in fifth but quickly became the man on the move as he worked his way through to the front of the field. He passed Seewer and Prado for the lead and checked out. Romain Febvre also returned this weekend after sitting out Loket and showed strengths in race one as he passed into podium territory. However it was Calvin Vlaanderen who put in a laterace charge to take second place from Febvre. These two finished second and third respectively while Bogers claimed his first ever race win.
Prado again took the holeshot in race two and led the first three laps before being overtaken by sand specialist, Glenn Coldenhoff. A four-way battle broke out for the podium as Febvre, Vlaanderen, Bogers, and Gajser duked it out. Vlaanderen eventually solidified his spot in second while Bogers and Febvre locked into a last lap battle for third. Bogers managed to launch pass the number-three Kawasaki and secure the overall win with 1-3 finishes. Coldenhoff took the race victory ahead of Vlaanderen. This made it a Netherlands sweep of the podium with Bogers claiming his first-ever overall, Vlaanderen second, and Coldenhoff third.
MX2
The championship hunt in MX2 is being fought tooth-and-nail between Jago Geerts and Tom Vialle. Geerts entered his home GP only eight points clear of his rival Vialle and got off to an early holeshot in race one. His Yamaha team mate Thibault Benistant made a pass for the lead in turn two, but it was Roan van de Moosdijk who overtook the lead by the end of the lap. de Moosdijk later fell and handed the lead back to Geerts who was defending from the Dutchman, Kay De Wolf. De Wolf showed his sand strength and passed Geerts before taking the eventual race win. Geerts came home second ahead of Simon Längenfelder. Vialle had his struggles and crashed before finishing seventh.
Race two saw Geerts and De Wolf up front again on the opening laps. De Wolf made his move to the lead on lap three but Geerts stayed close and looked to capitalize on maximum points. A mistake from De Wolf put Geerts back into the lead where he stayed to take the eventual race win. De Wold came home second with Kevin Horgmo rounding out the race two podium. Geerts’ 2-1 gave him the overall ahead of De Wolf’s 1-2. Vialle salvaged fourth in race two and earned third overall with 7-4 scores.
