Title contenders Jeff Emig and Jeremy McGrath Up Front
In this week’s Throwback we travel back in time 26 years to August of 1996 and the AMA 250cc Motocross National at Washougal, Washington. The was the season of the epic battle between Jeff Emig and Jeremy McGrath that went down to the final moto of the season with Emig winning the title. Both Emig (No. 2) and McGrath (No. 1) are up front in this shot from the start of one of the motos. This proved to be a pivotal weekend in the championship. McGrath injured his foot in the previous national at Millville, and riding in pain at Washougal, MC pulled off in the second moto, scoring no points. Also visible in this shot are Larry Ward (No. 6), Rich Taylor (No. 48), unknown rider (No. 987), Ty Kady (No. 358), Mike Young, Jr. (No. 273), Kyle Lewis (No. 11), Ryan Hughes (No. 5), Anthony Amaradio (No. 30), Damon Bradshaw (No. 28) among others. Mike LaRocco, who is tucked in there behind Lewis wearing the MSR gear, won the overall that day with a 2-2 aboard his factory Suzuki.
