Team FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Off-Road Taylor Robert picked up right where he left off, taking the win at round two of the AMA National Hare & Hound Series, Presented by FMF, in Murphy, Idaho, March 20. Despite the temperamental weather, Dirt Inc. motorcycle club laid out an outstanding racecourse that led to some classic desert racing battles.

Wet dirt provided bar-to-bar action all day, and after 95 miles of racing, KTM’s Taylor Robert beat 3 Bros./Hatch Racing Husqvarna’s Dalton Shirey by 10 seconds.
Factory Beta’s Joe Wasson claimed a commanding holeshot off the bomb aboard his Beta 480RR, with Factory KTM’s Taylor Robert and 3 Bros./Hatch Racing Husqvarna’s Dalton Shirey hot on his heels. Rain the night before would allow for a mostly dust-free race for the top runners. An early bobble by Wasson would allow both Robert and Shirey to sneak by, setting the tone for the remaining race.
Dalton Shirey took the lead early in loop one, maintaining good pace into the alternate pit due to a longer 55-mile loop one.
“He passed me in the alternate pit, I was keying off of him and from there it was kinda cool to see and learn off of him, just taking the opportunity to learn from someone with so much knowledge,” Shirey said.
With Robert taking the opportunity for a clean pass, Shirey would keep the pressure on all the way through loop two. After over two hours of racing, only 10 seconds separated the two at the finish.
“There was a lot of variety of terrain out there, it was a little faster than I thought it was going to be,” said Robert. “I thought Lucerne was fast but this kind of took it to another level. It was really cool once I got on the second loop, I was having a blast, the sand washes over there were so much fun. But like Dalton said, we were right there with each other the whole time, even Joe. We were just motoring, the three of us, just good fun racing. It was clean racing, we were just pushing hard. The dirt was so good we could just stay wheel to wheel. It’s not very often we get to do that in hare and hound racing.”
Carter Klein went on to not only win the Pro 250 class, but land an impressive sixth overall despite being on a 250F.
Pro 250 rider Clayton Roberts rode a fantastic race all day maintaining a comfortable yet fast pace aboard his GasGas 250. In an unfortunate stroke of bad luck, Roberts’ chain derailed just one mile from the finish. Pro 250 winner Carter Klein took advantage of this while finishing just four seconds ahead of Roberts. Clayton was able to get his bike rolling to the finish line with local Idaho racer Carter Stears finishing just one second behind him.
In only her second hare and hound, Ava Silvestri took first place in Pro Women aboard her 3 Bros./Kilmartin Racing’s GasGas.
In the Pro Women class Full Factory’s Rachel Stout led most of the race, coming in from the first loop one minute ahead of 3 Bros./Kilmartin Racing’s Ava Silvestri, but about 10 miles into the second loop, Stout lost track of the course, turning the lead over to Silvestri. That was the only window Silvestri needed in order to capture her career-first National Hare & Hound victory, a scant three seconds over Stout. After making a few mistakes on the first loop, Colorado Recycling Husqvarna’s Britney Gallegos regrouped for a very solid ride, ultimately landing her third place.CN
