Full Gas Sprint Enduro Round 1 Results
Cycle News Staff | February 15, 2022
The Full Gas Sprint Enduro is up and running again as the series saw a rebirth for round one this past weekend. North Carolina’s Outback Motorsports Park hosted eight special tests on Saturday’s amateur day and 10 tests on Sunday.
With the Full Gas Sprint Enduro Season now underway, Steward Baylor (Yamaha) would come out with the first overall win of the year over Tyler Medaglia (GasGas) and Josh Strang (Kawasaki). Medaglia put on a very strong performance, winning all 5 Cross Tests on the day against the five-time National Enduro Champion, Baylor. But with Baylor’s speed in the Enduro Tests, it would be enough to edge out the Canadian motocross star by just three seconds. Strang also put in a solid ride, winning Test number seven and earning third overall on the day.
In the XC2 class we would seen a great battle between Benn Nelko, Ruy Barbosa and Evan Smith. Nelko rode a strong opening Enduro Test, but Smith won the first Cross Test. Nelko then edged Smith by only .678 seconds on Test three. Tests four and five went to Barbosa who put on a charge to win both Tests by over a second. As the day progressed though, Nelko stayed on pace and won the last three Tests to secure his 1st XC2 win of the 2022 Full Gas Season. Barbosa took second while Smith rounded out the podium.
In Pro-Am, Tyler Palmer took the class win followed by Zack Hayes. Palmer also finished eighth overall on the day. New York’s Dominick Morse came in third.
The Women’s Pro saw Mackenzie Tricker take the win followed by Elizabeth Perez and Jessica Morrison rounding out the podium.
