Pikes Peak Hill Climb Results 2019

Cycle News’ own Road Test Editor Rennie Scaysbrook (Team Aprilia USA) etched his name into the history books by claiming the Heavyweight and King of the Mountain titles at the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, an event marred by the tragic passing of four-time winner, Ducati’s Carlin Dunne after a crash close to the finish line (see separate news story).
Scaysbrook also took a new all-time lap record, besting Chris Fillmore’s 2017 mark with a 9:44.963. Second overall was Lucy Glockner, marking her best result in the event. Third went to Dunne’s Ducati teammate, Codie Vahsholtz. Glockner also made history as the first woman to claim the Exhibition Class win on her BMW HP4 Race machine ahead of Britain’s Robert Barber on the electric Nottingham University entry and Japan’s Yasuo Arai (Kawasaki Z1000).
“I’m so pleased to get this win after four years of trying but this is absolutely not the way I wanted to get it,” said Scaysbrook after the event. “Carlin was an absolute gentleman—he helped me as a mentor in my rookie year of 2016 and we had a great battle together in the 2018 event that he won. It’s such a tragedy.”
KTM’s Chris Fillmore took the Lightweight Class win ahead of Darryl Lujan (Honda CRF450R) and Greg Chicoine (Kawasaki KX470) and for about six minutes held three of the four available class records at Pikes Peak (before Scaysbrook claimed the Heavyweight record) as he set a new Lightweight benchmark of 10:20.819.
Brazilian rider Rafael Paschoalin (Yamaha) took his first win at Pikes Peak in the Middleweight category.
