The Austrian powerhouse has one of the most formidable rider line-ups on the grid. Featured for the 2019 race is Austrian’s defending Dakar champion Mathias Walkner, 2017 winner Sam Sunderland, 2016 winner Toby Price, and Dakar’s most successful ever female, Spain’s Laia Sanz.
For the holidays, Red Bull has a four-part docu-series titled Up Front With The KTM Rally Team for you, where they embed you in the team during the lead-up to the 2019 Dakar start in two weeks’ time, focusing mainly on Rally Morocco.
As has almost become customary thanks to team sponsor Red Bull’s media wing, the quality of the production is excellent and gives you a brief insight into what goes on behind the scenes of the most famous rally team of all.
The team looks in good shape to defend their 17 straight Dakar wins in 2019. However, 2018 World Rally Champion Price has a question mark over his head after crashing while training and breaking his left scaphoid bone, a notoriously difficult injury to overcome quickly—especially so given the physical demands of the Dakar.
