Not only did Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Thomas Covington nab his first podium finish of the 2015 FIM World Championship Series, but he also claimed his first GP victory of his career in the MX2 division. The win came at the Grand Prix of Leon in Leon, Mexico, September 13, on what was a wet, slippery and muddy track. The American went 4-1 for the overall win, topping the 5-2 posted by Honda rider Paul Gasjer.

It was, however, a good day for Gasjer who gained a few more valuable points on his nearest rival Pauls Jonass. Gasjer leads Jonass, who still won the first moto in Mexico but crashed back to 13th in the second moto, by 18 points with one round left.

In MXGP, it was just another day at the office for Yamaha’s Romain Febvre who came away with his seventh overall victory of the season. The new World Champion won both motos over KTM pilot Sean Simpson.
