Honda Finally Releases RC213V-S
| June 11, 2015
Honda has finally confirmed the arrival of the MotoGP-derived RC213V-S, which will be sold as the top-of-the-line machine carrying the big H badge.
Rumors of an RC213V machine for the street have persisted for years, with indeed only Ducati releasing a version of their MotoGP four-stroke machine – the iconic Desmosedici RR – back in 2006. Honda is now set to join this illustrious club by bringing the RC213V-S to production, with a limited number of units set for the US at an eye-watering price of $184,000.
“Ever since the modern four-stroke era of MotoGP began, fans have demanded a road-going version of Honda’s legendary RCV,” said Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “With Honda’s dominance in recent years, that call has become unrelenting, so we’re excited to announce the RC213V-S. This motorcycle reflects the same attention to detail and precision in assembly found in the factory machine. It’s an amazing bike that is sure to be a hit with a select group of U.S. customers.”
Dimensions closely mimic those of Marc Marquez’s MotoGP weapon.
The machine will be closely based on Marc Marquez’s title winning machine of 2013 and 2014 and will be constructed at HRC’s Kunamoto factory. The RC213V-S will be powered by a 999cc, 90° V4 four-stroke powerplant housing titanium conrods and a sand-cast aluminum crankcase. The fuel tank is located under the seat, with the swingarm, slipper clutch, magnesium Marchesini wheels (17-inch size for the RC213V-S), pressurized Öhlins fork and adjustable footrests and foot controls, as well as most of the Brembo brake components all coming straight off the MotoGP machine. The electronics – to name a few – include throttle-by-wire, selectable power modes, engine-brake control and traction control, with position-detection technology developed through Honda’s ASIMO project.
