East Rutherford, NJ (April 25, 2015) – Marvin Musquin wrapped up the Eastern Regional 250SX class championship with a solid win at East Rutherford, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, tonight, in front of 60,582 motocross-crazed fans.
The Red Bull KTM rider got bumped around a bit at the start of the 15-lapper, but came out of the fray in second be the end of lap one where he tailed early leader and defending class champion Justin Bogle on the GEICO Honda before making a pass for the lead on lap 11. The former MX2 champ from France had stretched his lead to over three seconds by the time the checkers came out and when they did he performed his signature heal-clicker to celebrate the victory.
“It feels great to get this win,” said Musquin. “It feels almost like a perfect season because my worst finish was a second and I did that twice, so that was good for me.”
Bogle held on for second, the Honda rider but he was not leased about the season.
“Losin’ that number one plate hurts bad,” said Bogle. “I’m capable of winning, and losing tonight and losing the title hurts deep.”
Third went to Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy, who spent most of the race battling with Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin. Savatgy was fourth on the opening lap, but passed Honda-mounted Kyle Peters on lap two and stayed there for the remainder of the race.
Fourth was Martin, who tried stuffing Savagty at least once to take over the podium position but Savatgy having none of it.
Meanwhile, GEICO Honda’s RJ Hampshire beat out fellow Honda rider Kyle Peters for fifth, while Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Anthony Rodriquez was seventh ahead of Yamaha-mounted Michael Oldenburg.
Kyle Cunningham (Hon) and Luke Renzland (Yam) rounded out the top 10.
