FMF KTM-supported Gary Sutherlin came out on top of a three-rider battle to win the featured AMA West Coast Grand Prix Series race at the Mavericks Adelanto Grand Prix in Adelanto, California, over the January 3-4 weekend.

Precision Concepts Kawasaki’s Justin Seeds settled for second, having led several laps of the 90-minute event while WFOx Honda’s Colton Udall rallied from a last-place start to earn third.

In WCGP Pro II, Dalton Shirey made his class debut aboard his Pro Circuit Husky TC 250 a winning one, followed by Yamaha-mounted Trevor Stewart and 3 Brothers Husky’s Nick Stover.

Round one of the MSR AMA Big 6 Grand Prix Series saw a huge turnout reminiscent of the Adelanto GP 20 years ago with more than 1600 entries for the weekend.

We will have full coverage of the event in next week’s issue of Cycle News magazine.

Kariya spends way too much time in the desert, but we’re glad he does as he’s the man who gets us our coverage of all things sandy.
