MILLVILLE, NJ (Sept. 14, 2014) – Dustin Dominguez did what he needed to do to keep his championship chances alive, but he was not in control of his own destiny. That luxury went to Hayden Gillim, who led at times and pressured Dominguez to the flag, taking second. That was more than enough for Gillim to finally win the SuperSport title after coming close the last few years. Dominguez’ margin of victory was 0.041-seconds.
Wyatt Farris came out on top in a good fight for third with Kaleb De Keyrel.
Gillim and Dominguez had a torrid battle nearly the entire 16 laps. Many wondered why Gillim was pushing so hard to win, even though he didn’t need to win to clinch the title.
For Dominguez it was his fourth victory of the season.
“It was the most disappointing win I’ve ever had,” Dominguez said. “I tried to get in behind Hayden there for a bit to see if I could pressure him into a mistake, but it wasn’t happening so I tried to breakaway.”
For Gillim the title was the reward for three years of effort. “To finally come out here and battle for wins and finally get the No. 1 on the bike I can’t thank the team enough,” Gillim said.
