In this week’s Throwback we dial the clock back 45 years and arrive at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania. It was round six of the 1981 AMA 250cc Motocross Championship. This action-packed photo shows the start of the first moto and it was Kawasaki’s Warren Reid (9) finding a perfect line on the dusty track and heading the pack into the first turn. Following Reid are Kris Bigelow (54), Donnie Hansen (21), Dave Hollis (52), Gary Semics (23), Mike Twigg (71), Rick Burgett (18), Bob Hannah (100), Kent Howerton (1) and the rest of the field. Howerton came through to win the overall with a (1-1). Reid ended up second (3-3) and Burgett rounded out the podium finishers with a (5-2). Howerton went on to earn his second straight AMA 250cc MX title that season.
