Opener to Feature Over/Under Bridge

| October 27, 2000

An interesting twist has been added to the National Arenacross track planned for November 3-5 at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa, according to a recent SFX Motor Sports press release. The infamous over-under track bridge will be used to challenge riders and excite fans. This massive 52- by 20-foot, 25,000-pound structure was used on selected 2000 Supercross tracks, and is so large that more dirt will be needed to build this track.

“This year we ordered 200 more yards of dirt to build the track. We went from 1200 yards in 1999 to 1400 this year,” said Track Construction Manager Rigg Hipps. “This is going to be the biggest, baddest, track Des Moines has ever seen.”

National Arenacross pros will face off Friday and Saturday night next week at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. during this inaugural weekend of the 34-round season. This weekend’s lineup includes Ft. Dodge native Chad Pederson, Josh Demuth, Pedro Gonzalez, Tommy Hofmaster, Jeff Willoh, Denny Stephenson (on a new Kawasaki ride), and six-time National Champion Buddy Antunez.

Tickets for the 7200 seats available each night are on sale now at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium box office and all Ticketmaster locations, or by phone at 515/243-1888. Tickets for Friday and Saturday are $17/$17 (gold), $15/$10 (mid) and $13/$5 (treadhead) with all seats $2 more day of show. Sunday tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children. Discount coupons are available at local participating Kawasaki dealers for two dollars off an adult mid-level ticket for Friday night’s race. Sunday doors open at 12:00 noon.
