In a thrilling and dramatic title decider at the 2026 Women’s Motocross Championship at Ironman Raceway August 28-29, Altus Motorsports bLU cRU Yamaha’s Lachlan Turner clawed her way to a third consecutive WMX crown amid pure chaos, while Quad Lock Honda’s Charli Cannon delivered a flawless 1-1 sweep for the overall victory.

Friday’s moto one opened with disaster, as an early crash by Turner handed Cannon the win, forcing the defending champion to charge from deep in the pack just to salvage fifth, tightening the screws on the championship fight.
Cannon set the pace immediately in moto one, holding off Turner as the pair quickly pulled clear of the field. Turner closed to within half a second during the opening three laps, but Cannon stretched her advantage to nearly two seconds midway into the race, controlling the remainder of the race to finish more than 24 seconds ahead.
Turner nearly crashed on lap five while chasing Cannon, but recovered only to crash again, eventually dropping to fifth at the finish. The result of Cannon’s win and Turner’s fifth-place finish trimmed Turner’s lead heading into Saturday’s final moto down to 13 points in the race for the title.
Daniela Guillen (GasGas), the Spanish rider and FIM MXGP Women’s points leader making her WMX debut with Wildcat Racing, passed SLR Honda’s Mayla Herrick early in the moto, moving into second with two laps remaining, resulting in an impressive runner-up finish. Herrick claimed third, while Brandy Richards (KTM) finished fourth, ahead of Turner.
Further back, Dusty Rocks Yamaha’s Jordan Jarvis claimed sixth after being passed by Turner on the final lap. SLR Honda’s Mikayla Nielsen took seventh, with Partzilla Blaster Power PRMX Kawasaki’s Taylah McCutcheon finishing ninth.
If moto one wasn’t enough drama, Saturday’s moto two was pure calamity. Cannon backed up her Friday result with another strong start. However, early in the opening lap, Turner moved past Cannon for the lead. Moments later, disaster struck when Turner crashed in the same turn that had cost her positions the day before, dropping her deep in the field.
Needing only a 10th-place finish or better to clinch the title, Turner regrouped and charged forward, reaching 10th on lap two and ultimately climbing to fourth at the checkers.
Up front, Cannon controlled the race. Herrick moved into second and closed to within less than a second of the leader on lap four, although Cannon responded to the challenge and held firm to take the moto win and the 1-1 overall. Guillen finished third in the moto and third overall after a 2-3 weekend.
Cannon’s dominant weekend claimed the overall, yet the final moto delivered drama fitting a championship closer as Turner’s grit under fire sealed her third straight WMX title.CN
