Birmingham, AL (March 6, 2026) — The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is proud to announce the establishment of the “Discovery and Innovation Motorsports Fund,” a new endowment made possible through the generous contribution of the Linn-Henley Charitable Trust. This fund honors George W. Barber Jr., whose vision and passion laid the foundation for the museum and who supported its commitment to motorsports education.

The Discovery and Innovation Motorsports Fund will provide a dedicated and sustained source of financial assistance for the museum’s education initiatives, allowing continued growth and innovation across grades 3-12 field trips, summer camps, professional development for educators, undergraduate internships, hands-on learning experiences, and workforce-inspired programming rooted in science, technology, engineering, math, and design.

As a direct result of this extraordinary gift from the Linn-Henley Charitable Trust, education will remain a core pillar of the museum well into the future. The fund ensures the museum can continue to offer high-quality experiences, expand program impact, and guarantee that all learners, regardless of resources, have the opportunity to participate in transformative motorsports-based programs in a world-class environment.

The initial investment to establish the fund celebrates George Barber’s lifelong commitment to the spirit of curiosity through education and mentorship, as well as the preservation and interpretation of motorsports history. Barber always held a deep belief that motorsports provides a powerful platform for engaging students, and this fund will solidify the museum’s position as a leader in innovative STEM education.

“The Discovery and Innovation Motorsports Fund allows us to think long-term about education,” said Dr. Liz Johnson, education programs manager. “It will support curriculum development, hands-on learning modules, and a state-of-the-art learning facility. Most importantly, we can continue fulfilling George Barber’s vision to foster creativity, ignite curiosity, expand access, and empower the leaders of tomorrow, all through the exciting lens of motorsports.”

The Discovery and Innovation Motorsports Fund marks a significant milestone in the museum’s history, reinforcing its commitment to education as a driving force for community engagement, inspiration, and lifelong learning.
