A Cross-Country Delivery Resulted in An Unexpected Result

(Mitch Friedman Collection)

In this week’s Throwback we have a great photo with a great story. The winter leading up to the 1993 season and former Daytona 200 winner David Sadowski was at home in Georgia building houses without a ride for the upcoming season. Then a phone call to Rob Muzzy. Muzzy needed to get one of his 750 Supersport machines back from Tripp Nobles, who also lived in Georgia. If Sadowski could go pick up the bike and transport it to Phoenix, would Muzzy let “Ski” race it in the opening round of the AMA 750cc Supersport Series at Phoenix International Raceway? A one-off deal was made with no other incentives.

So what does Ski do? He picks up the Muzzy bike, drives cross country to Phoenix and made the most out of his opportunity by winning the race! It marked his first AMA National win in three years! This is Muzzy Kawasaki’s Scott Russell giving Ski a big hug in Victory Circle after the improbable accomplishment. Leave it to Ski to pull off something like that.
