The Mission Foods CTR Flat Track Series returned to Ohio, visiting Harpster’s Triangle Motorcycle Club on June 13-14 for rounds five and six. This event offered an early preview of next month’s AMA Flat Track Grand Championships, with Bodie Paige taking full advantage of his return to dirt track.

The rider from Queensland, Australia, stood out as the best in the Open Amateur and 450 Amateur Divisions. Rain shortened the events on the first day, granting Paige victories based on heat race results. However, on the second day, no amount of restarts or challenges from fellow Australian and MotoAmerica Talent Cup rival Sam Drane could slow Paige down.
The 450 Amateur main event on Saturday was the closest Drane would come to disrupting Paige. The two exchanged the lead several times throughout the event, ultimately seeing Paige victorious by just over half a second.
Doug Davis joined Paige in enjoying a perfect weekend, completing a sweep of the 50+ and 60+ classes. Greg Boyle won both 40+ main events during the weekend, while Tony Pearson and Kyle Snyder achieved triumphs in the 30+ class.

Wesley Settle, nicknamed “The Animal,” proved he was, in fact, a beast when it comes to motorcycle racing. Settle secured three victories in the four main events he participated in, triumphing in Friday’s 85cc main event with a last-lap pass around Jayden Nickens. Friday’s SuperMini main event was the only occasion we witnessed The Animal subdued all weekend. Lucy Heaton-New’s excellent start proved crucial on her path to her second win of the season in the class. Once Saturday arrived, Settle got his revenge, defeating Heaton-New in both the 85cc and SuperMini competitions.

The 50cc Air-Cooled class provided the rivalry of the weekend. Cruise Texter and Cooper Mindiola had the Triangle Motorcycle Club abuzz with fierce battles that culminated in drag races to the checkered flag on both days. On Friday, Mindiola emerged victorious by 0.102 of a second, and on Saturday, it was Texter’s turn to win by a margin of just 0.068 of a second. Texter also shared victories with Odin Music in the 65cc class, achieving a weekend sweep in the 50cc Chain division.

The American Flat Track Series points leaders Briar Bauman (Mission AFT SuperTwins) and Tom Drane (AFT Singles presented by Kicker) joined an expert field filled with stars to compete on the Ohio Half Mile. Bauman did not experience the same good fortune he had in Salem, Ohio, in May, managing only a weekend best of fourth place in the Premier Expert class.
Drane made the most of the Mission Dash For Cash on Saturday, but Trevor Brunner of Turner Racing Honda achieved the greatest success among the expert competitors. Brunner claimed two victories during the rain-shortened program on Friday but returned on Saturday for an exciting win against Kody Kopp and Tom Drane in the Premier Expert class. It appeared that Brunner would also be on track for a weekend sweep; however, with three laps remaining in the Open Expert main event, he slowed on the back straightaway, relinquishing the lead to Kopp, who was also making his return to dirt track racing for the weekend. Kopp concluded the weekend victorious over Trevar Martin and Max Whale in Open Expert.
Additional weekend sweeps were awarded to Deegan Lickfeldt (Open Novice), Jed Fyffe (250 Amateur), and Vincent Zachary (Hooligan). Ben Evans and Ben Miller split the wins in the Vintage class.
The Mission Foods CTR Flat Track Series will return with its penultimate stop of the season at Peoria Speedway on July 18-19.
