A Group of Motorcycle Road Racing Celebrities Ready for the Start of the AMA National

In this week’s Throwback, we dial back the clock 39 years to the 1986 Loudon Classic, at Bryar Motorsports Park in Loudon, New Hampshire.
This photo shows riders listening to what could be “O Canada.” So many Canadians made the short trip to Loudon that the promoter would play both the American and Canadian national anthems before the start of the national. On the grid for that day’s AMA Formula One National are (l to r) racer and rider coach Keith Code, TV announcer Larry Maiers, former racer-turned Honda mechanic Phil McDonald, Honda factory rider Wayne Rainey and racer Gary Goodfellow. Rainey went on to finish third that day behind Randy Renfrow and Kork Ballington. Goodfellow, a Kiwi living in Canada at the time, finished fourth on a nearly stock Suzuki GSX-R750.
