Yamaha Unveils 2025 YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M Models
Rennie Scaysbrook | September 18, 2024
The Yamaha R1 may be discontinued in Europe but they are still being pumped out for select markets around the world, luckily, including the USA.
While not massive in changes compared to the 2024 models, the R1 and R1M get once crucial update riders have been complaining about for what seems like forever.
Both bikes will now gain Brembo Stylema four-piston radial-mount front brake calipers and a Brembo master-cylinder. Yamaha has at long last done away with the four-piston brakes that have been an R1 weak point since the 2015 edition made its debut, finally bringing the R1 to similar levels the Euro bikes have enjoyed for years.
The R1 is also getting winglets. Yamaha has been the last hold-out of the traditional bodywork shape—sans winglets—but have now joined the aerodynamic party with a similar design to the winglets used of Fabio Quartararo’s M1.
Aside from that, the R1 and R1M are the same as before with its 998cc CP4 crossplane crank motor that debuted back in 2015. The base R1 runs 43mm KYB conventionally adjustable suspension while the R1 gets the Ohlins Dynamic Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS).
The 2025 Yamaha YZF-R1 will be available in Team Yamaha Blue or Matte Raven Black and will begin arriving to dealers in November for $18,999 MSRP. The Yamaha YZF-R1M will be available in Carbon Fiber and will begin arriving to dealers in March for $27,699 MSRP.
