Tommy Bridewell (BeerMonster Ducati) made a little slice of personal history at Snetterton, July 8-9, for round five of 2023 British Superbike Championship by taking all three race wins on offer for the first time in his career.
The Briton had earlier won race one after a four-way dogfight with teammate Glenn Irwin, and Aussies Josh Brookes (FHO Racing BMW Motorrad) and Jason O’Halloran (McCams Yamaha), gaining the lead after an audacious last-lap pass at fast Nelsons left-hander off the back straight.
Irwin was the big loser in race one, going from leading at the beginning of the last lap to fourth at the flag after both Brookes and O’Halloran came storming past.
In race two, Bridewell kept Brookes at bay by 1.6 seconds with Leon Haslam (ROKiT BMW Motorrad Team) claiming the final podium place in third with Irwin again fourth.
Race three and Irwin was in no mood to not be on the box as he and Bridewell traded blows over the 16 laps.
Irwin was hassling Bridewell all the way to the flag with the narrowest of margins separating the pair at 0.032 seconds, Bridewell claiming the Quattro Race of Aces Trophy. Haslam and Ryan Vickers (LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha) were also in close formation, but the ROKiT BMW Motorrad rider denied the Thetford contender a home-round podium at the finish.
In the championship, Bridewell is sitting pretty at 217 points. Irwin is next at 192 and Ryde is third with 171. CN
