2023 AMA Arenacross Round 4 Results
Cycle News Staff | January 18, 2023
Round four of the AMA Arenacross series took place in Prescott Valley, Arizona, January 14. With heavy rain postponing the Oakland Supercross, the Arenacross team quickly responded by raising their purse money and encouraging any supercross rider to race the Arizona round. Extra bonus money for the Pro winners saw the addition of some recognizable names, including Cade Clason, Gared Steinke, Austin Politelli, Robbie and RJ Wageman, and Dominique Thury.
An increased rider roster created a challenge for some of the Arenacross regulars. As 52 riders attempted to qualify, series contender Izaih Clark failed to make it in for the Pro main.
The three-time and defending champion Kyle Peters had no issues with the weekend’s newcomers. The Phoenix Honda rider found himself up front in main one and held off hard charges from both Clason and Politelli. Peters claimed the win in race one.
All eyes were again on Peters as the gate dropped for the second Pro main. The Arenacross format inverts the gate picks based on results from the first race, which meant Peters, Clason, and Politelli were all forced to start in the second row. An early crash from Peters left the door open for the rest of the field to battle for the lead.
Fans saw AJE Motorsports’s Mitchell Harrison take advantage of the opportunity and lead the pack. Bar X Suzuki’s Robbie Wageman and Politelli followed closely and battled for the duration of the race. In the end, Harrison was able to maintain his lead and took home the win in the second Pro main. Peters tried to work his way through the pack but ended up in eighth.
Politelli’s consistency on the night earned him the overall win with two third-place finishes. Wageman came home second with 5-2 scores and Peters still managed an overall podium despite the fall in the second main. CN
