Sebastien Tortelli Took Victory in Spite of Crashing in the First Moto
In this week’s Throwback Thursday, we dial back the calendar to June of 1997. This photo shows the start of one of the motos at the San Marino 250cc Motocross Grand Prix World Championship event in Borgo Maggiore. Stefan Everts (No. 1) nailed a great start on his Honda. Also getting a good jump off the line was Frederic Bolley (No. 5). Sebastien Tortelli (No. 24) was running well in the first moto when he crashed and fell out of the top 20. The Frenchman picked up his Kawasaki and made a spectacular charge through the field and made it all the way up to second, behind first moto winner Everts. Tortelli came back in the second moto to take the win and the overall victory with his 2-1. Pit Beirer finished second overall followed by Everts. Everts of course, went on to win the 250cc MX World Championship that season.
