2021 Silver State 300 Motorcycle Results. Nic Garvin, on the Liebelt Inc./Champion Adventures/STI Tire & Wheel-backed Honda CRF450X, scored a wire-to-wire win at the Silver State 300, round two of the Best In The Desert Racing Association Motorcycle Championship, in Alamo, Nevada, May 1. The 300-mile race, which featured nearly 50 motorcycle entries, started and finished in Alamo, visiting the desert communities of Panaca, Caliente and Pioche along the way.
Garvin Wins Again In Best In The Desert Silver State 300
Garvin started out in front, took advantage of the dust-free racecourse and never looked back for the win. He did, however, escape disaster late in the race after getting acquainted with a cow at 70-plus miles an hour!
“I was fortunate to be the series points leader after our win at the Parker 250, which ultimately gave me the first starting position,” Garvin said. “They made a rule change for 2021 where there aren’t any draws, it’s placed off series points, which is awesome when you’re the series points leader! I was excited because Skylar Howes was racing as well, (past champion of the series and recently signed Rockstar Husqvarna racer) to see where I matched up against him.
“Starting at 6:00 A.M., we took off in increments of 30 seconds,” Garvin said. “I had dust control of the race which played a huge benefit! Once I was out front, I settled into my own pace. [My bike] was riding and handling perfectly!
“Around pit three, I had opened up a three-plus-minute gap on my competition. Later into the race, I opened up a larger gap to almost six minutes at one point. Between pits six and seven, however, I encountered a collision with a cow on the racecourse going about 80 miles an hour, resulting in a pretty battered motorcycle. The subframe, swingarm, and sprocket all were pretty bent, but I managed to limp it in to the finish, missing the overall time by 54 seconds to the first Trophy Truck.”
Garvin, riding solo, completed the race in four hours and 43 seconds, taking the checkered flag more than four minutes ahead of Howes, who also soloed the race.
The race for second was a close one, with Howes finishing just 19 seconds ahead of the Kilman Racing/3 Brothers Racing/Kenda KTM of Hayden Hintz and Trevor Hunter.
Jeff Trulove, on the 3 Brothers KTM, and his partner, Jeremy Newton, took fourth, approximately eight minutes behind the Hintz/Hunter duo.
The Nic Colongeli/Evan Kelly team, also aboard a 3 Brothers-backed KTM, rounded out the top five overall.
Other motorcycle class winners included Over 30 Pro Bryce Stavron with a finishing time of 5:06:04, Pro Taylor Stevens/Wyatt Brittner besting Cory Skaggs/Jarett Megla after an epic battle finishing in 5:07:46.
Ironman Pro Class was won by J18 Tanner Tavernier with 5:23:24.
The Open Expert Class was taken by the Eric Holt/Damon Bush/Tyler Harvey team.
the Ironman Expert won by Dallas Theobald, and the David Swanson team won the O-40 Expert Class.
The O-50 Expert race was won by the team of Paul Palmer/Cliff Thomas/Scott Stearns and Derek Paiment.
Finally, Darian Hickey and Kari Erickson took home the Women’s Expert Class on the W15 KTM competing for Rider of Record, Ashlee Gage, who was injured before the race and couldn’t participate. CN
