Throwback Thursday: 1994 Trials des Nations Winners
In this week’s Throwback we flip back the calendar 26 years to 1994 and that year’s Trials des Nations held in the tiny country of Andorra, situated in the eastern Pyrenees Mountains. Cycle News Associate Editor Donn Maeda was on hand to cover the event and he took this image of the winning Spanish team featuring (from left to right) Jordi Tarrés, Angel Garcia, Joan Pons and Marc Colomer. Spain has long been the dominant country in the Trials des Nations, having won 26 of the international competitions since its inception in 1984. By comparison France is second all-time with five wins. This particular Spanish team was loaded with talent. The Spanish quartet scored four of the top five individual scores, with Pons earning the best score of the competition.
