Throwback Thursday: Mike Kidd Leads Syracuse Semi
In this week’s Throwback we travel back 43 years to 1976, the year of America’s Bicentennial. And what could be more American in motorcycling than an AMA Grand National Mile, and in this case the famous one in Syracuse, New York. The photo captures the first lap of a Semi with Mike Kidd (No. 72) leading Gene Romero (No. 3) and the rest of the pack as they power out of a turn and prepare to draft down a straightaway.
Also clearly visible in the shot is Charlie Chapple (No. 36). Romero went on to take the win and he, along with Paul Bostrom (who you can just see on the far left of the pack on bike No. 46) transferred to the main. Kidd missed the main, but won the Trophy Race.
