Press Release | October 30, 2019
The four-day weekend festival is scheduled for November 7-10, 2019 in Lake Elsinore, California.
This is a press release from Dirt Series LLC / Elsinore Grand Prix…
The Lake Elsinore Grand Prix is a dirt bike race that is part of the City of Lake Elsinore, California’s history that dates back to 1969. The annual race is usually held in mid-November.
The popularity of the event hit its apex in the late 1960s and early 1970s, drawing the likes of dirt-bike greats Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen, to name a few. The race has always been set as an “open” format, meaning anyone can ride; usually only about 200 or so take this event seriously, whereas the rest use it as an opportunity to have fun. In 1971, the documentary movie On Any Sunday by Bruce Brown included scenes from the grand prix.
The Grand Prix has grown tremendously through out the years and continues to expand not just in the riders that enter, but also the spectators coming to enjoy the racing and the festivities of the four-day event.
We kick off Thursday with a Vintage and Veterans Takeover. This day allows all the vintage bikes a chance to show off and take a trip down Main Street, Lake Elsinore and gives our Veterans a chance to be recognized for their service. We partner up with our local Navy Federal Credit Union and our local VFW to promote this day.
Day 1 of the Grand Prix starts off with all of our little guys, but also features a generations race and a UTV team race for our families. The generations race consists of three generations of family preferably Son/Daughter, Father/Mother and Grandfather/Grandmother. This race really allows the festival atmosphere to take effect because the whole family gets involved.
The other race that is very popular is our UTV team race. This consists of one little UTV and one big UTV that pair up to see who will get the best placing as a team. Littles will go out for their time first, then comes the big guys racing to try and make the podium.
Day 2 of the GP is our busiest day. We have our wide range of dirt bike classes that race this day. This is also the day the Famous Harvey Mushman race goes on. This is the race that started it all. The name of this race is called the Harvey Mushman because of famous actor Steve McQueen. He signed up under the alias name to disguise his presence as a racer from the movie producers. We usually get over 700 racers for just Saturday to race. A huge day of racing from dawn ’til dusk!
Day 3 is a full day of everything off road! UTVS, ATVs, sidehacks, Trophy karts, dirt bikes, three-wheels all get a little race time in. This might be the last day of the race schedule, but definitely the one day all spectators and racers look forward to. High-speed UTVs ripping the track for half the day! Old school three-wheelers and sidehacks leaning the curbs! ATVs of all skills coming in pinned through the asphalt surface of Main St and Dirt bikes getting one last day to throw in a few more laps!
A 4-day weekend festival filled with nonstop off road racing, 2 Zones packed with interactive vendor booths and families, friends and fans from all over the country, enjoying the historical Elsinore Grand Prix to the fullest.
