In this week’s Throwback we wind it back 37 years to the Peoria (Illinois) Motorcycle Club Grounds. Wayne Rainey (60) got the jump at the start of the first heat race at the 1981 Peoria TT National in front of a great crowd. Rainey, riding a Chris Armstrong/Connelly Machine Harley-Davidson XR750, led from start to finish and held off a challenge by defending Grand National Champion Randy Goss (1) to win his heat. Ricky Graham (41) held off Alex Jorgensen (44) to finish third. You can also see Jay Springsteen (9), Ted Boody (12), Mickey Fay (59), Doug Ahn (86) among others. Scott Pearson went on to win the national on a Yamaha.
